Everyone has heard of Wi-Fi calling. But very few people use Wi-Fi calling.
Wi-Fi calling is the process of making regular phone calls using Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi calling is useful where there is insufficient network coverage or range. For example, suppose you live in a building that does not have a mobile network. Regular phone calls are possible if Wi-Fi is available there. For this, your network service providers must be Wi-Fi calling providers.
In India, the service is provided by Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea. There are no special charges for WiFi calling. Most of the smartphones launched today support Wi-Fi calling. You can check this in the network settings of the phone
WiFi calling uses the VoIP (voice over internet protocol) network instead of the commonly used VoLTE. Your service will also be encrypted by service providers during Wi-Fi calling. So even if you use a non-password protected Wi-Fi it is relatively secure.
